DECEMBER 2005 by Bob Mulligan

The most dominant feature of December is a grand fixed cross, which lingers all month; the four planets involved are: Mars in Taurus, Saturn in Leo, Jupiter in Scorpio, and Neptune in Aquarius. We are in for a slow grind. It is difficult to initiate new activities, but is it a great time for completing the things we haven’t had time for in the past. Our field of activity is narrow, even constricted. We make progress all month by applying our energy in a consistent and patient manner on things that have been with us a long time. Familiar personal patterns can be altered, but it is hard to surrender the emotional investment we have in maintaining the status quo.

This December begins and ends with a New Moon. The December 1st New Moon is in Sagittarius at 10:01AM EST. Even though underlying difficulties are present, we may still accomplish more than appears possible by initiating activities on this New Moon. The Full Moon on December 15th is at 11:16 AM EST. The passions of the unconscious mind surface; our challenge is focusing this intensity in a positive direction. 2005 draws to a close with another New Moon on December 30th at 10:12 PM EST. All New and Full Moons are important times of meditation and reflection. However, this 13th new moon of 2005 happens just before the dawn of a new year; as such is a perfect time for reflection on where we have been. It is also now that we should set intentions for our future. Fearless self-inventory pays big dividends as Saturn (planet of limitation) rules the New Moon and is Quincunx it. Mars (planet of energy) Trines it, and Jupiter (planet of luck) makes a Sextile. It is possible to focus a tremendous force in some direction. Knowing where to put your attention and then believing in yourself is the most important aspect of the way the year ends.

With both Mercury and Mars still retrograde at the beginning of the month, it is difficult to build momentum on anything. However, work on ourselves and digging into ongoing projects can be quite fulfilling. As Mercury turns direct on December 3rd we can put the period of deep introspection behind us. Mars turns direct on the 9th, opening our subjective valves letting new energy flow. However, we will still be ushering in 2006 in a mood of emotional revision, as Venus (planet of our love nature) turns retrograde on December 24th and will remain moving backwards until February 3rd.

December 1st to the 4th – We have a short time of power and thrill, as the New Moon in Sagittarius and the Mars/Jupiter opposition gives us plenty of energy. Read paperwork carefully as Mercury is changing directions and it’s easy to make mistakes.

December 5th to the 11th – We may feel that the possibility of real progress is coming as Mars turns direct. This week will have a fanatical tone. Determine that you will be the voice of reason.

December 12th to the 18th – The emotional mood is much lighter this week. Our underlying and enduring interests encourage us to implement necessary fundamental changes.

December 19th to the 25th – We may need a good deal of emotional support to weather this week. Expectations and facts are separated by some distance. Learn to compromise and create harmony, then the joy of the season will descend on you.

December 25th to the 31st – Keep believing in the power of the good in you to make a positive contribution to the world. Your biggest enemy now is loss of belief in your own goodness. “Even the gods cannot defeat a man who has won a victory over himself.” - Buddha

1st – Thursday – Mars Sesquiquadrate Pluto, then the New Moon at 10:01am EST – We are all in the mood for a change and the pot is certainly being stirred. Choosing a direction for our energy is not easy. Too many options and lots of issues vie for our attention. Planning and taking care of routine tasks is the best solution now.

2nd – Friday – Everything returns to normal; we find a comfortable niche in familiar surroundings. Changes we wish to see can unfold comfortably, even if slowly, now.

3rd – Saturday – Sun Trine Saturn, Venus Semi-sextile Pluto, Mercury Parallel Neptune, Mercury turns Direct – Our emotional light bulb turns on and our reasoning process gets a shot of idealism and common sense simultaneously. We are going forward with long held plans.

4th – Sunday – Mercury Sextile Venus, Mars Opposite Jupiter – We live with a certain enthusiasm for the practical. Harmony and productivity are the keynotes.

5th – Monday – Mercury Parallel Neptune – Inspirational thoughts and good news arrive adding a bright twist to a very busy day.

6th – Tuesday – It’s easy to spend too much time in your head today. Make sure that you make time for important people in your life.

7th – Wednesday – Sun Sextile Neptune, Jupiter Semi-square Pluto – Self analysis can be quite beneficial now. A deep dissatisfaction with some aspect of our lives can surface if we are quiet and not busy projecting our unrest onto others.

8th – Thursday – Sun Parallel Venus – You don’t need to know every detail about the current situation. This is a great time to be pleasant and remain open to the various opportunities of the day.

9th – Friday – Mars turns Direct – We may feel inspired to get up and try again at things we have been hard pressed to complete recently. Well, alright, but keep your focus on the things that can be achieved right now. It is going to take a long time to get the big projects to work out.

10th – Saturday – Mercury Sextile Venus – Keep self expression, pure, simple and direct. Let others know what is on your mind. Journaling can also be an important way to getting your creativity flowing.

11th – Sunday – You will be so surprised at how many things are around you that you can easily complete. Just recognize the obvious; then materialize the natural consequences of the things you have already done.

12th – Monday – Mercury enters Sagittarius then Contra-parallels Saturn –We have a difficult time focusing on the achievable and practical today, but, this is exactly what is called for. We can finish something important and start on something new.

13th – Tuesday – Pleasant feelings color our interactions today. A smile can go a long way toward energizing other-wise blank interactions.

14th – Wednesday – We tend to be nervous. We may have too many things going on, we may be distracted, but our intuition can be strong and opportunity is available to make things better.

15th – Thursday – Sun Sesquiquadrate Mars, Venus enter Aquarius, the Full Moon, Sun Conjunct Pluto – Enthusiasm and anger successfully channeled can bring a sense of fulfillment. Troubles are in the news but our personal lives can be more carefully focused on the positive aspects of life. Lots of energy and input from several sources make this a potent day.

16th – Friday – Emotional bonds connecting us to the past color the way we approach our task. Luck is with us on everything we do, if we can see how to tap into it.

17th – Saturday – Jupiter Square Saturn, Sun Sesquiquadrate Saturn, Sun Semi-square Jupiter – We deal with the limitation of our striving. Big plans need shaping in order to be practical.

18th – Sunday – Mercury Square Uranus – Brilliant ideas are all around us, however, don’t be in a hurry. It is going to take a while to materialize the real substance on many of the things you are thinking on today.

19th – Monday – Mercury Parallel Venus – Freedom is on everyone’s mind, even though the idea can have a different meaning for each of us. Caution in our communications carries us closer to our goals.

20th – Tuesday – Mercury Quincunx Mars – Prudence in thought and action help us along life’s pathway. Don’t cut yourself such a big piece of pie that you will have trouble digesting it later on. Temperance is the key to success right now.

21st – Wednesday – Mercury Trine Saturn, Sun enters Capricorn – A solemn mood falls over the country but we remain productive. Big events captivate our attention. Much that is in the news now is pure fantasy. We all need to keep our feet on the ground. There is a joy emerging under all of the present difficulties.

22nd – Thursday –Mercury Semi-sextile Jupiter, Mars Contra-parallel Pluto, Sun Semi-square Neptune, Sun Semi-sextile Venus – It is easy to be confused about the direction of almost anything and everything now. If you happen to have the right direction, it is possible to make a lot of progress today. In order to do this you have to focus on a few important things to the exclusion of everything else.

23rd – Friday – Seek harmony. It is possible to have a really peaceful day. Artistic expressions are favored now.

24th – Saturday – Venus turns Retrograde – Personal ideals are augmented. Take in a movie or artistic experience; be with others for some social life, if at all possible.

25th – Sunday – Mercury Sextile Neptune, Mars Sesquiquadrate Pluto, Mercury Semi-square Venus – Lots of energy is generated to complete some projects. Some arguments can emerge as misunderstanding can easily occur. Be willing to surrender outmoded ideas.

26th – Monday – Persistent difficulties can find some resolution today. Frustration occurs if you are in too big of a hurry or push others too much. Stay calm and you will benefit.

27th – Tuesday – Mars Contra-parallel Neptune, Mars Square Saturn – Inspiration and persistent effort bring results. You may feel as if you are pushing against an impenetrable barrier. People in your life may be ultra sensitive. Avoid situations that have trouble with no resolution. Pick your projects carefully.

28th – Wednesday – It is a light and breezy day. It is easy to dance on the surface of life now. And this may make more sense than getting immersed in all the underlying difficulties.

29th – Thursday – Sun Sextile Uranus, Venus Contra-parallel Saturn, Sun Parallel Mercury – It’s a day of correction. Minor changes can easily put us on a great path forward and we can let go of past suffering.

30th – Friday – New Moon is at 9 degrees Capricorn at 10:12 pm EST – Reevaluate the year in terms of your goals. Where have you been while your life has been happening? We can prepare to start 2006 on a new footing. Present the best side of your nature. This is a chance to outline a plan for a new you.

31st – Saturday – Mercury Conjunct Pluto, Mercury Sesquiquadrate Saturn, Sun Quincunx Saturn – There is such a serious tone to this New Year’s Eve. We are in a retrospective mood. Spend time with yourself so you enter the New Year connected with your destiny.
