December 2007 by Bob Mulligan

Each December we have the winter solstice as the Sun enters Capricorn reaching its lowest point in the sky; we have the shortest day of the year. Our first day of winter alone makes December a significant month. However, this year we have so have so much planetary activity December becomes an important fulcrum point for change. Jupiter changes signs, Saturn changes directions, the nodal axis changes signs, Jupiter conjuncts Pluto, the Sun parallels Jupiter twice as well as conjuncting him. There are so many powerful aspects this month it will provoke some response from everyone.

Key relationships between men and women will change in some noticeable way during December. This is shown by Mars (the masculine Planet) and Venus (the feminine planet) doing a dance with each other and the outer planets all month. The comic purpose of this change is to realign the energy between genders. We will experience this as opportunity to get clarity in our primary relationships.

Mercury (planet of mental life) is moving at a blistering pace as it reaches the conjunction with the Sun and then passes it. He covers the Entire sign of Sagittarius in 19 days. We have an opportunity to broaden our horizons and deal with many new options. Mercury (messenger of the gods) acts as a trigger, putting into motion many pre-formed patterns.

The New Moon occurs at 12:42 PM EST, on Sunday the 9th. There are five planets in Sagittarius (sign of abundance); two days later Jupiter conjuncts Pluto. This year our holiday season gives us a strong need to expand, and hopefully this will be more that our midsections. Keeping our eyes on a distant goal brings it closer. Meditating on positive change for the world will manifest it.

Jupiter and Pluto conjunct in Sagittarius on December 11th. Although these two brother gods come together every 13 years or so, this is the first time this conjunction has happened in Sagittarius (The home rule of Jupiter) since 1758. We can expect changes in money and laws around the use of money. This has been a consistent theme for this pairing as far back as we can trace this cycle.

Jupiter enters Capricorn on the 18th. This movement from his own sign to the territory of Saturn marks the beginning of real difficulty for anyone unwilling to take stock of their current situation; the demands of the moment are to understand and measure what you really have. For those willing to do honest work on themselves, this is a unique time of guaranteed progress and profit. This transit lasts until January 5th 2009, and defines a time for expressing our vision of life in concrete turns. Much of what can’t be defined will be eliminated.

Saturn turns retrograde on the 19th, allowing us to revisit our decisions of the last three month. We will remain in this process of “mulling over” important circumstances for the next six months; this single movement forms a backdrop to all other considerations for the majority of us.

Also on the 19th, the nodal axis (which defines our pattern of spiritual development) migrates from Pisces/Virgo to Aquarius/Leo; this movement points to a shift from being concerned with the process of our life to emphasizing the motivation for our actions. For the next year and a half, personal growth comes through concentrating on group effort; we need to release our self-centered impulses in order to achieve our own personal development. Things uniquely personal become more dependent the world and our society’s progress.

On Saturday the 22nd the Sun Enters Capricorn, then promptly conjuncts Jupiter. With Saturn (ruler of Capricorn) retrograde and Jupiter moving to trine (healthy and supportive aspect) him, we have this next thirty day period working favorable to bring material progress in our lives. Yes, there are lessons and progress is slow, but we are moving in the right direction toward achievable goals.

At 8:16pm EST on Sunday the 23rd we have our Full Moon right after the Sun Conjunct Jupiter and Mercury Semi-squares Neptune. Every Full Moon generates energy, but this one has so many contributing boosts that everyone will feel it. If you are planning on going out and socializing, be careful. Mars (god of war) is involved in many aspects. We have arrived at a powerful world mediation point as this Full moon occurs only a day after the winter solstice.

From the 1st to the 9th is a time of gestation. There are major shifts during this week in the arena of romance. Emotions go hot and cold. You may find circumstances to be quite fluid. Misunderstandings can crop up and be resolved. If you want stability, be relaxed and calm; it helps.

From the 10th to the 16th we are mentally stimulated and keyed up; ask more from life. Be willing to work and to wait. Many problems resolve themselves or just disappear. Don’t hold yourself back; take the plunge and grab the opportunities that are so very present.

From the 17th to the 23rd plan, wait, relax, and exercise common sense as you push for closure on key issues. Now is the time to make your goals concrete and to take practical steps toward their completion. This is traditionally a time for holiday giving and for spending time with the family; this year we should be practical and measured with the way we give and with the type of activities we engage in with others.

From the 24th to the 31st there is a romantic and nostalgic vibration that needs to be integrated with our desire to be practical. Accomplish the necessary thing then spend time visiting with people. Split your time between working alone and being involved in group activities.

10th – Monday – Mercury Parallel Jupiter, Mercury Square Uranus – We are not content to let things happen naturally; we are driven by the logic of our perceptions to make a bold statement or to just leave the situation we find ourselves in. New information sprouts up everywhere. What we do with our new perspective has a long lasting effect.

11th – Tuesday – Jupiter Conjunct Pluto, Venus Trine Mars, Sun Sextile Neptune – Powerful forces are playing themselves out on the world scene and we are required to look at the big picture. We are excited, optimistic, and creative. Plan bold steps even if their execution is a ways away.

We are truly fortunate when we take up the challenge and pour out to the world from our higher selves.

15th – Saturday – Insecurities and doubt can grip us and sap the joy from the day. We may be tempted to just ignore the immediate difficulties or to become gloomy. Present preexistent problems are only mechanisms for strengthening our resolve and for teaching patience. Accomplish what you can, then relax.

21st – Friday – Mars Sesquiquadrate Venus – It is very difficult to stay balanced as so much needs to be done quickly. We have an opportunity to express our feelings differently, to correct misunderstandings, and to cement key relationships; the real difficulty is that we have too many opportunities and too many choices. Prioritize and be satisfied with some progress. Striving for a “home run’ probably means “striking out”.

22nd – Saturday – Sun Enters Capricorn, Venus Squares Neptune, Mercury Opposite Mars – Sit still. The first day of winter has difficulties. Old problems surface with a vengeance. Observe but be careful about how you engage others. Emotions run high and angry has a way of coming out in totally inappropriate ways. Stay calm and evaluate.

23rd – Sunday – Sun Conjunct Jupiter, Mercury Semi-square Neptune, the Full Moon at 8:16pm EST – Stay on your chosen path and follow the plan. New offers emerge but this is not the time to change course. Finish the race you are running and you will be satisfied.

24th – Monday – Sun Opposite Mars – Last minute plans can add spice to the day but people are likely to feel combative. The real issue? Who’s in charge? Work with others where you can but avoid making a “mountain out of a molehill”.

25th – Tuesday – Mercury Trine Saturn – Merry Christmas! Our time with family and nostalgic mood can be disrupted by lingering feelings of obligations that weigh on us. Discharge responsibilities with cheer and the day feels solid and joyful. Self-criticism can spoil the atmosphere. Give yourself a break.

26th – Wednesday – Mars opposite Jupiter – Work and family, personal life and pubic life; we are drawn in two directions. Do your best to take yourself and your circumstances less seriously. You will accomplish more in both arenas.

27th – Thursday – Sun Semi-square Neptune, Mercury Semi-square Venus – We have inspiration and loving feelings. Finding practical applications for our new insights may be difficult. Concentrate on short term achievable goals and the day is easier.

28th – Friday – When you focus on the details and prioritize correctly, today hums along with a perfectly calm feeling.

29th – Saturday – Sun Parallel Jupiter, Venus Semi-sextile Pluto, Mercury Sextile Uranus – This current joy is intoxicating; we are swept away by a need to express more and make our mark on things around us. If you are able to sit still, you will see the world in a new way.

30th – Sunday – Sun Trine Saturn, Venus enters Sagittarius, Venus Quincunx Mars – We need to accomplish something but our preferences seem to be changing. Stay disciplined but keep your spirit light. Our emotions are a real adventure now.

31st – Monday – Mars Enter Gemini – We are overwhelmed by new possibilities. This is a golden opportunity to shed our old skin and drive off into the sunset, creating a new future for ourselves. By changing now, we can change the world around us. Happy New Year.
