2002
AND JANUARY by Bob Mulligan
We will all
remember 2001 as a demarcating point. It was the beginning of the
end for the old world view of reality. 2001 created the circumstances
to usher in a new world zeitgeist or collective thought form. This
turning point year finds us finally abandoning five hundred years
of mercantilism, as we progress rapidly toward one unified world
culture. Civilization is at the crossroads of history.
Initially,
2002 promises a liberal amount of reprieve from the rather gloomy
past. We leave behind a very difficult year. There is joy and merriment
in January, as we abandon the problematic vibration of December.
However, right at the beginning of the year it is still obvious
to everyone that many of our long standing difficulties are not
going to magically disappear. However, an early lift in spirits
at the beginning of 2002 and some real surprise happenings later
in the summer and fall, gives this year a different feel than last.
All three outer
planets, (the ones not visible to the unaided eye) form some major
aspect to Saturn (planet of struggles) this year. Saturn is the
lord of Karma, he rules time, he rules limits. January falls in
the middle of a nine month pattern of Saturn opposing Pluto (ruler
of the underworld). This happens every 35 years and always turns
our world upside down. We will not be the same after September 11,
which left us permanently changed.
The last time
this aspect occurred we had the Vietnam war. The time before we
had the great depression. And so on. We always eliminate certain
things from our lives during this time period. This time, collectively,
the human race is evolving through a fundamental change of world
view and self-perception. Our whole thought process is changing.
Provincial thinking and narrow self-interest is headed for the "trash
bin". We will see this in some way reflected in our everyday lives.
Saturn is in
Gemini, the sign of thinking, distribution, and travel. Saturn trines
Neptune (planet of higher vision) in April before completing its
last opposition of Pluto on May 25th. This indicates that Our idealistic
impulses and spirit of sacrifice for the good of humanity colors
our thinking as we focus on the final cuts in our personal lives
in May. During this time we are all in a process of seeing what
stays and what goes. In the fall Saturn completes its Sesquiquadrate
to Neptune, becoming exact on July 29th and then again on December
30th. This shows our ability to act quickly to manifest our higher
impulses to do good for the world. Saturn's trine to Uranus on August
21st shows that we have a comparatively easy balancing act between
our traditional ways of accomplishing goals and the new innovations
that are available to us now.
Eclipses are
always a profound symbolic representation of what is going on in
the world. We have four eclipses in 2002. We have lunar eclipses
on May 26th and June 24th, bracketing a Solar eclipse on June 10th.
This very important Solar Eclipse has Saturn conjunct The Sun and
Moon. Something fundamental in the way we act toward each other
(and the way we think about the world we live in) must and will,
finally change. It's the end of an era. The final lunar Eclipse
of the year on November 20th confirms our new direction.
Jupiter shows
where we look for opportunities. Jupiter is the planet of administration,
of how the system runs. Jupiter Sesquiquadrates Uranus on January
18 and again on May 17th. This indicates that wild schemes are afoot
during winter and spring, but most of them are either impractical
or out of step with the times. Dynamic leaps forward and bold steps
are more favorable from the beginning of June through the rest of
the year.
On August 1st
Jupiter goes into Leo. This ushers in a new attitude for self expression.
On September 11th 2002 (the one year anniversary of the attack on
the World Trade Center and the Pentagon) Neptune and Jupiter oppose
each other. This is a time of comfort and reflection, but keep in
mind that this planetary pair can create an aura of unrealism and
fantasy.
October becomes
a defining month in 2002 as Saturn turns retrograde on the 11th
then makes the semi-square to Jupiter on the 13th. Jupiter trines
Pluto on the 27th providing the impetus to implement the positive
ideas we have been inventing most of the year. This Jupiter Pluto
trine repeats on December 18th giving the entire fall a wonderful
coloring of optimism. Stock market, interest rates, mortgage rate,
and property values are going to keep sliding until summer. The
whole economy starts the long climb north in the fall.
Now, A few thoughts
on January:
The 1st to the
6th carries the vibration of optimism and celebration. Overdoing
it is always possible now but a little practical common sense can
keep life running smoothly.
From the 7th
to the 13th, hard work is required to move forward. There is a dreamy
quality to this period. The New Moon on 13th is at 8:30am EST. Its
time to reflect. What dreams do you wish to manifest in the coming
month?
The 18th of
January, Jupiter makes an aspect to both Saturn (past) and Uranus
(future) within a 24 hours period. Mercury turns retrograde and
Mars moves into Aries. We feel inclined to jump into things today.
Its easy to get off on the wrong foot. Our great energy is best
used for projects that have already begun but need fine tuning.
On the 28th
at 5:52pm EST we have our Full Moon. A powerful competitive urge
prompts us emotionally, but a positive aspect from Saturn to both
the Moon and the Sun helps keep our desires closely focused on important
goals.
