October 2011 Newsletter
By Bob Mulligan
This year the whole month of October is an anomaly. Usually, while the Sun transits Libra, our major focus is polishing our interpersonal skills; we spend quality time relating. We do that this year, but with a twist. Now we work deep within ourselves; the most empowering relationships are built on understanding. With Neptune (planet of culture) finishing up its last passage through Aquarius in our life time, we are completing a period of uniting our feelings with our intuitions. Venus (the ruling planet of the moment) is close to Saturn at the beginning of the month; we are pensive. We are focused inward all month. This is a time of deep self-analysis and coming to terms with self-imposed limitations. Jupiter Trines Pluto all month (coming exact on October 28th); these are the two gods controlling wealth, growth, and organization. We see changes come about in commerce and in our private lives. Because the Sun and Moon Oppose Jupiter and Sextile Pluto at this time, energy builds all month and then finally releases during the last few days. Although there is much turbulence, we will see a new foundation for society being put into place during the month. Coherence emerges from chaos.
The Full Moon is on the 11th at 10:06 PM EDT. Every year when the Sun is in Libra (sign of relationships) and Opposes the Moon in Aries (sign of self) we get a chance to balance our needs against the requirements of our primary relationships. This year the Sun (our ego) is Conjunct Saturn (lord of karma) and we have an opportunity to jettison old patterns that have held us back. This is harvest time. With Venus in Scorpio Opposite Jupiter in Taurus, passions and appetites are powerful. This can be a time of grand release from our past.
The Sun enters Scorpio on the 23rd. We start a new solar month with the opportunity to achieve a further integration of our feminine forces as the Moon (mother) applies to a Sextile of Venus (mate). Our practical habits coalesce around our individual love impulse in a supporting manner; we strive for harmony; this will be the big achievement of the month. There are many aspects showing luck, strife, and self-analysis. This journey through Scorpio shows the most promise of any month this year for personal growth. The New Moon is on the 26th at 3:57 PM EDT. This is a time of endings and beginnings. It is one of the most important turning points we have seen with the New Moon Opposite Jupiter and Sextile Pluto. We are offered a chance to transform our basic ways and live continually from our higher consciousness. Venus and Mercury are applying to the Square of Mars. These are all personal planets and they are in fixed signs showing the depth of our emotional struggles. The big danger is that we will be pulled off course and become stubborn and petty. If we stay spiritually minded and intensely practical we can make rapid advancement in every aspect of life.
From the 1st to the 9th we go from one extreme to another. Intensely creative feelings run against the grain of established and necessary obligations. We can see new ways of accomplishing old tasks but aren’t able to implement them yet. This is confusing and frustrating but also visionary and inspiring. Be patient; it gets better.
From the 10th to the 16th great expectations fuel the markets as lots of dollars switch hands. Staying calm requires detachment. Expect good things to happen; share what you have and accept others as they are. We can see a new world being born.
From the 17th to the 23rd relationships are important but we each carry our personal issues into every encounter. Now it is possible to see the truth; our partnerships can’t improve until we improve. Normal mundane tasks are there and need to be done, but in some ways they are completely beside the point as we work toward something greater in ourselves.
From 24th to the 31st we take a giant leap forward and improve both our personal and professional life. All we have to do is overcome our own tendency to expand too rapidly; when we get ahead of ourselves we lose our center of gravity. We do best by keeping our eyes on our goals even if it means that we create alone. This is a happy moment; seize it.
1st - Saturday – Sun Parallel Mercury, Sun Quincunx Jupiter – Good meetings and positive social interactions give sparkle to life. Common sense boils down to acknowledging the pleasures of the moment but then knowing when everyone has had enough.
2nd – Sunday – Stay friendly and comfortable with people marching through your life. Indecision and combativeness can make us less effective in our work, social life, and relationships.
3rd – Monday – Mars Square Jupiter, Mercury Sesquiquadrate Neptune, Mars Contra-parallel Pluto - Tension builds as we may be trying to accomplish too much in a short time. Anger, frustration, and escapism can all detract from an otherwise astoundingly creative day. Stay focused on long term goals and values as a counterweight to immediate distractions.
4th – Tuesday – Mercury Parallel Saturn – Organize your priorities and elicit other people’s help; you will be amazed at the response. Careful planning and consistent effort pays off.
5th – Wednesday – New insights show the manner in which innovation can be most effective. A little lift to every project points to some form of inspiration.
6th – Thursday – Mercury Conjunct Saturn, Sun Sesquiquadrate Neptune - We are in a moment of transition. We are finishing some project of long duration and simultaneously seeing where we want to apply our energy next.
7th – Friday – Sun Parallel Saturn, Venus Trine Neptune – Be brave enough to take the steps necessary for your real inner beauty to unfold. This is a moment of finding higher love and inspiration.
8th – Saturday – Our mood is shifting from open acceptance to a narrower focus. A quick jolt of energy is the necessary requirement to complete a long sought after result.
9th – Sunday – Venus enters Scorpio - We may be at a loss as clouds of thoughts give us too many options and not enough clarity. If possible, just rest. There is a rhythm to our inner world that keeps us focused on what is important when we take the time to recognize it.
10th – Monday – Venus Quincunx Uranus – Suddenly every impulse is accentuated and our feelings are to act immediately. Enjoy the ride; we are happiest when we keep our attention on where we are going and forget about where we have been. 11th – Tuesday – The Full Moon is at 10:06 PM EDT - All our relationships are held in balance as we are prompted to examine who in fact we really are. Being cautious is a good thing; however, we need not be afraid to act, even when we are alone.
12th – Wednesday – Mercury Trine Neptune, Venus Parallel Neptune, Venus Contra-parallel Jupiter, Jupiter Contra-parallel Neptune - A certain amount of joy and good luck finds its way to our door without us consciously doing anything. However, we can bring sweeping, noticeable, and permanent changes to our lives if we have the foresight to focus on our highest values.
13th – Thursday – Venus Sextile Pluto, Mercury enters Scorpio, Sun Conjunct Saturn – Eliminating waste and gaining efficiency with our time gives a deep feeling of satisfaction. There is a finality now; we reap exactly what we have sown.
14th – Friday – Mercury Quincunx Uranus, Mercury Contra-parallel Jupiter, Mercury Parallel Neptune, Venus Opposite Jupiter – This is a mentally stimulating day. There are lots of communications and everyone is generally positive and upbeat. It’s ok to push your ideas but know the limit of your ability to expand.
15th – Saturday – Don’t let nervous energy, interruptions, or changes in plans upset you. This is meant to be a fun day; being spontaneous won’t free us from responsibilities but it does make our given tasks go easier and faster.
16th – Sunday – Mercury Sextile Pluto – We have the ability to see to the heart of any issue we are working on. Deep insight and constant questioning leads us to new information. Problem solving and consensus building are the best uses of today’s opportunities.
17th – Monday – Mars Sesquiquadrate Uranus, Mercury Opposite Jupiter – Feelings of urgency can have us jumping too quickly or just way overshooting the mark. Be aware that costly mistakes can be avoided by waiting a little longer for more data.
18th – Tuesday – Mercury Parallel Venus – Listen to others as meaningful advice can come from unlikely sources. Most people are making decisions based on how things feel right now. Be peaceful and you get further.
19th – Wednesday – Our normal routines are disrupted and we can become frustrated when our gut instinct seems to be off. Obstacles appear when we are too addicted to specific results. Learn from the environment.
20th – Thursday – Our hands are free and we more easily move forward. Forcing our will on another will have a deleterious affect; it is best to just share our gifts with others and see what they are able to assimilate.
21st – Friday – Mercury Contra-parallel Mars, Venus Contra-parallel Mars, Sun Trine Neptune – We experience a tremendous gulf between our higher values and beliefs on one hand, and our intransient material needs on the other. Our desires are strong and at war with our higher nature. Isolation breeds trouble and group interaction brings harmony.
22nd – Saturday – Venus Sesquiquadrate Uranus –Personal strength and courage are the character tools we use to establish our new sense of independence. Act with assurance and stay practical; others come along when they are supposed to be with us.
23rd – Sunday – Mars Sesquiquadrate Pluto, Sun enters Scorpio – It is easy to get in a fight, start an argument, or create an enemy. Be still; channel aggressive energy into meaningful projects.
24th – Monday – Mercury Sesquiquadrate Uranus – Flashes of insight and brilliant ideas can make for much excitement. But, stubborn attachment to forms, rituals, or habits can stop us from grasping the true significance of the moment.
25th – Tuesday – Sun Quincunx Uranus, Sun Contra-parallel Jupiter, Venus Semi-square Pluto – Our urge for freedom can degenerate into hostile feelings for others. Deep concentration can stop the chain of negative thinking and lead us to positive action. 26th – Wednesday – Mars Sextile Saturn, Mercury Parallel Pluto, Venus Semi-sextile Saturn, Mercury Semi-square Pluto, the New Moon is at 3:57 PM EDT, Venus Square Mars, Sun Parallel Neptune - Every New Moon is a new beginning but this one is a very active turning point. With cautious steps taken in sequence, our actions can reveal some new treasures in our own nature. We make progress when we keep moving and pay attention.
27th – Thursday – Mercury Semi-sextile Saturn – Love and duty are recurring themes now. With careful analysis and intentional conversations we can understand then heal insufficiencies in key relationships. Be patient and truth will follow.
28th – Friday – Mercury Square Mars, Jupiter Trine Pluto, Sun Opposite Jupiter, Sun Sextile Pluto - This is a lucky and productive time…we make some good choices and have lots of forward momentum. Overreach and arguments are the only things that can get in the way of progress. Stay positive.
29th – Saturday – Venus Parallel Pluto – Pure spirit of adventure may be the motive behind our “button pushing” habit now. Everyone and everything gets shaken up a bit now and we very well may be the ones responsible for the shaking. Passions are strong and a little playfulness can turn serious, be prepared for depth.
30th – Sunday – Swift progress turns into caution. We make a successful day by following our common sense; there is a well trod path in front of us, stay on it.
31st – Monday – Venus Square Neptune – Are we able to make something beautiful out of the confusion of the moment? Love is in every event, even when we don’t have eyes to see it. We can help the world if we use our personal passions to aid others in a practical manner.
