OCTOBER 2001 by Bob Mulligan

The sad happenings of last month created an atmosphere which carries forward into October. This is quite an active month yet somewhat easier than September. The Saturn Pluto opposition, which triggered the tremendous upheaval last month will be with us until next June. Even with great difficulties, we all have the opportunity to get a grip on our lives now, individually as well as collectively. For one thing, on the 1st, Mercury turns retrograde at the very tail end of the sign Libra. This stays in effect for the first three weeks of the month, putting us in the mood to re-evaluate our lives. Now is the time to correct past mistakes and to re-negotiate our relationships. Actually, we may well spend the whole month in deliberation on how we relate to others. Lots of criticism and self-criticism is with us at the beginning of the month…Hang in there. Bold steps can bring us to harmony and a sense of peace by the last week of October.

The Full Moon is at 11:50 AM on the 2nd. We reach a climax. A crescendo. Is there a more important time to pray for world peace? Self-assertion is strong now. Romance and loving feelings are present but we all find it hard to be as open as we would like.

A playful attitude struggles against our fears of being rejected and a general seriousness on the 3rd. Minor adjustments of mental attitude on the 4th can lead us to a working solution with people on the 5th. Change what you can, but don’t obsess.

Self control, focus, and discipline are favored on the 7th as The Sun (ego) trines Saturn (Discipline). We are all caught up in a deep inner struggle to formalize our way of relating. On the 9th, Mercury (movement) is parallel Pluto (Lord of the Underworld) showing lots of secret deals and behind-the-scenes manipulation. We correct our course of action with much enthusiasm on the 10th. We are experimenting with some new ideas about how things should be. It is genuinely possible to see the world through others eyes now . This can be a unique moment of accommodation. A peace may well settle over us now. Much goes on beneath the surface and deep within. Patience helps, so does meditation.

A new way to resolve old difficulties with other may be shown by Mercury (planet of communication) as he trines Uranus (planet of innovation) on the 13th. Forgotten insights come to the surface. It is possible to accomplish much by quickly implementing bold new plans. Since we lack perspective now, it is easy for tempers to flare quick on the 14th. Immediate action seems imminent.

Venus (planet of beauty) travels into Libra on the 15th. We let go of things from the past that aren’t working any more. The New Moon on the 16th, at 3:24 PM EDT brings us another chance to send healing vibrations to our troubled planet. Peace starts inside each of us. We can start over. This is the best time to try something new with those you love or wish to reach.

On the 19th Mercury (planet of planning) squares Jupiter (abundance). We are inclined to be too inclusive in our thinking, trying to do too many things. Both our work and our play seem important. It is hard, but not impossible, to prioritize. Venus (planet of love) is in aspect to both Uranus and Neptune on Saturday the 20th. This romantic and impulsive day can add color to an already exciting weekend. On the 21st we have Mercury Trine Saturn which give us opportunity to deliberate and plan. This attitude can give us all a note of caution as the aspect repeats on the 23rd. As Mercury turns direct on the 22nd we turn our attention to creating new avenues of communicating. We become more direct in our speaking but maintain an aura of deliberation and focus. On the 23rd Mercury trine Saturn again, emphasizing our need to develop clarity of thought and purity of motivation. Also on the 23rd, the Sun crosses into Scorpio setting the tone for understanding our basic emotional responses. This is a good time to start examining the nature of our desires.

The 25th finds Mars in aspect to Pluto which promises energy but easily erupts into anger. This mood carries forward into Friday the 26th as fear and interruptions can throw our rhythm off. Best to plan carefully then stay on well trod ground. Mars moves into Aquarius on the 27th which shows us breaking with long standing patterns of activity. It is easy to get carried away into new directions. This may be fine as long as we have taken care of our basic responsibilities. A dreamy quality takes over as the Sun squares Neptune on the 29th.

New ideas start to emerge on the 30th as a spirit of peace and harmony carries us toward a bold new path next month. The energy is powerful and changing now. Be prepared to let others see your better self.
